Obituary for Joetta Washington "Etta" Fisher
Joetta Washington Fisher, beloved daughter of the late Booker T. and Australia Milbourne Washington, was born on May 2, 1933 in Modest Town, Virginia. She departed this life on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, Virginia.
“Etta,” as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. She was employed at Perdue Farms for over thirty years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served on the Senior Choir and was a member of the Golden Age Club. Reading her bible was a favorite pastime and Psalms 23 was her favorite scripture.
Etta loved to attend the Senior Citizen Center, where she enjoyed spending time with her peers. She also enjoyed gardening and watching soap operas. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and the long talks they shared.
Etta was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Fisher, Sr.; son, Woodrow; and siblings, Carroll, William James, Leroy, Albert, Rebecca, and Carrie.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Justine, Dorraine, Lorraine, William, Jr. “Bossman,” Edward “Ed,” David (Gwen), Annette (Michael), and Anthony; grandchildren, Justin, Johnnica, Christopher “Chrissy,” Derek, Aaron, Ryan, William, Camron, Canon, Devon, and Ryan; siblings, Linwood, Rudolph (Shirley), George “Jake,” Booker, Jr. “Cookie,” Novella, Pansy, and Sallie; her dearest companion, Aristotle; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
