Obituary for Grace Helen Lankford

Grace Helen Lankford
Grace Helen Frances Lankford was born January 10, 1934 to the late Elihu and Tobitha Joynes Lankford in Horntown, Virginia. She died peacefully on Thursday June 1, 2017 at her home in Pocomoke City, Maryland.

“Gracie,” as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Gracie worked a variety of jobs, (laborer, seafood industry, custodian) for more than forty years until she retired. She loved her family and often times shared the family history. Gracie looked forward to family reunions and gatherings. She was a diehard Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves fan. Gracie was the true pioneer of her family and had a heart of gold, always extending a helping hand where ever there was a need. One of her passions was cooking and feeding family, they devoured her potato salad, sweet potatoes, greens, and many other dishes. Gracie's GREATEST passion in life was caring for and loving children, she took care of and supported over three generations of nieces and nephews as if they were her own.

She leaves to mourn one son, Connell (Renee’) Lankford of Hagerstown, MD; one granddaughter, Dr. Whitney Lankford of Atlanta, GA; a special niece whom she reared, Roberta Trader of Pocomoke City, MD; two sisters, Barbara Cropper of Pocomoke City, MD and Josephine Johnson of Parksley, VA; three brothers, Arthur (Brenda) Lankford and Roger (Malinda) Lankford, both of Horntown, VA, and Ret. SFC. James Lankford of Stockton, MD; three great-nieces, Shaniya, Tenae, and Nakai; one great-nephew, Aon (Fudge), all of Pocomoke City, MD; and many many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends that she loved and adored.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death, Fletcher “Tom,” Ruben “Fats,” Lois “Babe,” and Ruth “Teenie.”
