Obituary for Ralph Harmon

Ralph Harmon
Ralph J. Harmon, the beloved son of Gladys Brown Brent and beloved grandson of Levin H. Brown, was born on May 9, 1951 in Assawoman, Virginia. He departed this life on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

Ralph was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. He worked various jobs throughout his lifetime. His last place of employment was Perdue Farms, where he worked until his health began to fail.

On March 28, 1972, Ralph and Nancy L. Doughty were united as one and shared forty-five years. Their union was blessed with three children.

As a youth, Ralph had a passion for baseball and he played for several teams. He also had a passion for bowling and won numerous trophies and awards for his skills. Ralph’s favorite NFL team was the Washington Redskins. You could always find him watching the game with his daughter. She is a Dallas Cowboys fan, so you know that there was a lot of laughter and trash talking shared. Ralph loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great nephew, Karter.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Shelley “Leroy” Brent. Left to cherish his fond memories are: his loving wife of forty-five years, Nancy Doughty Harmon; two sons, Marcus (Kai) Harmon of Norfolk, VA and Trevor (La’Kesia) Brown of Bloxom, VA; one daughter, Mangel (Desi) Harmon of Nelsonia, VA; a nephew that he raised as his own, Martez Doughty of Suffolk, VA; eighteen grandchildren, three in which he helped to raise, Desiree Harmon, Dynasia Harmon, and Desi Harmon, Jr.; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight sisters, Patsy (Printis) Drummond of Savageville, VA, Debbie (George) Crippen of Nelsonia, VA, Barrie Brown of Modest Town, VA, Lynette Taylor of Seaford, DE, Gloria Douglas of Delmar, DE, Laura Broughton of Melfa, VA, Robin (Gregory) Tucker of Newport News, VA, and Bernice (Jeff) Wilson of Mappsville, VA; two brothers, Terry Taylor of Savannah, GA and Keith Brown of Parksley, VA; mother-in-law, Hythia Doughty of Exmore, VA; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Cleveland) Lathan and Angela (Lorenzo) Godwin, both of Exmore, VA; four brothers-in-law, Eric and Otis Doughty, both of Exmore, VA, Freddy Doughty of Seaford, DE, and Ray Doughty of Belle Haven, VA; two aunts, Geraldine Broughton and Nettie Brown; special friends, Essie Coston, George Toy, and Rev. James Nock; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
