June W. Townsend, age 89, passed away on January 27, 2018 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Nassawadox, Virginia. She is survived by her sons, Dana and Bill Fred Townsend; grandchildren, Tiffany and Jason Townsend; sister, Marge Wolfrey of Charlottesville, Virginia; and nieces, Demi and Jennifer Wood of Pocomoke, Maryland.
June was the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J. Wesley Webb. She was born in Eckard, Maryland, but moved to the Eastern Shore in 1944, where she resided until her death. She was predeceased by her soul mate, love, and partner of forty years in business and happiness and her equal, Earl Lee Holden of Hallwood, Virginia, and her husband, William Townsend. June graduated from Atlantic High School, now Arcadia High School.
June co-owned and managed the Redwood Grocery Store and Vibrations Unlimited Spiritual Center in Temperanceville from 1981 to 1997 with her partner, Earl Holden. She also worked for Arcadia High School.
June loved traveling and experiencing new places with Earl. Their long car trips included visits to Swananoa Spiritual Center in the Virginia mountains, and visiting many states along the East Coast.
She studied metaphysics as a Rosicrucian and Karate. Her open and inquisitive mind enjoyed courses like Philosophy at the Eastern Shore Community College.
June and Earl both loved the ocean and visited Chincoteague often. A small private memorial service will be held there in spring.
She is sadly missed by many of her friends and family who loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, PO Box 615, Onley VA 23418, or the Eastern Shore Community Services Board, 10129 Rogers Drive, Nassawadox, VA 23413.
