Lena Edith Spraggans, known to her family as “Big Lena,” “Aunt Lena,” and “Mama,” departed this life to eternal rest on Friday, April 27, 2018.
She was born to Joseph Melvin and Savannah Elizabeth Turner on February 5, 1931. Lena attended public school in Maryland. In 1968, she married Clarence Irving Spraggans and they enjoyed fifteen years of marriage until his passing in 1983. To this marriage, there was one child, the late Savanah Elizabeth Spraggans.
Lena lived and worked as a seamstress in Philadelphia until her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed spending time sewing, gardening, and planting flowers. She also enjoyed spending time at the flea markets and thrift stores looking for bargains and finding hidden “treasures.” Lena welcomed every opportunity to share words of wisdom and “home” remedies with her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, family, and friends. Another “Aunt Lena” favorite was listening and dancing to “Atomic Dog” at family reunions and gatherings.
Lena leaves to mourn her passing: one sister-in-law, Vonzella Turner; one brother-in-law, Arthur Pierce; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
