Dorothy Virginia Hargis Turner, born January 14, 1931 in Whitesville, Virginia gained her heavenly wings on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her residence in Parksley, Virginia. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Lee U. Turner, Sr.; daughter, Annette Brown; mother, Rose Hargis; father, Herman E. Hargis Jr.; and brothers, Levin Hargis, Jernell Hargis, Bill White, Brooks Custis, and Jim White.

Dorothy, affectionately known as “Dot,” received her education in the Accomack County public schools. She was employed for many years at Edward’s Seafood in Onley, Virginia, but her main passion was being a housewife and caring for her children and grandchildren.
At an early age, “Dot” was baptized and gave her life to Christ and became a member of Household of Ruth in Whitesville, Virginia. She married her lifelong sweetheart, Lee U. Turner, Sr. in 1948 and from this union they were blessed with six children, Rebecca, Ruby, Lee, Jr., Joseph, William, and Annette.
“Dot” enjoyed needle point, crocheting, and listening to gospel music, her favorite was F.C. Barnes. She also loved cooking, dancing, making rap songs, and counting and collecting pennies.
“Dot” leaves to cherish her fine memories: five children, Rebecca Custis of Parksley, VA, Ruby Turner of NC, Lee U. Turner, Jr. (Ruth) of Nassawadox, VA, Joseph Turner, Sr. (Nancy) of Salisbury, MD, and William Turner (Sheena) of Princess Anne, MD; sisters, Sarah Savage and Maybell Rue; eighteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; twenty-three great, great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and a special friend, Sandra “Sweetie-Pie” Davis.
