James Lee Butler, son of the late Vernon Satchell and Gertrude Butler, was born on September 5, 1960 in Savageville, Virginia. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his residence in Melfa, Virginia.

“Dookie” or “Duke Butler,” as he was affectionately known, was married to Linda Davis Butler, who preceded him in death. He was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. James was employed at Perdue Farms until his health began to fail. He was a member of Transformation Deliverance Ministries in Accomac, Virginia. James was quite the fashion icon, known for wearing his hats and jewelry.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Madison Butler; sister, Leaner “Annie” Fletcher; nephew, William Veney, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Curtis Ames.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his sisters, Rose (Floyd) Strand of Onancock, VA, Eva (William) Veney of Parksley, VA, Darlene Butler of New Church, VA, and Beulah Butler of Emporia, VA; brothers, Leon Butler of Melfa, VA and Vernon (Lillian) Butler of Harborton, VA; mother-in-law, Rebecca Davis; sisters-in-law, Loretta Harmon and Caroline Chandler; brothers-in-law, Bill Fletcher, Forest Davis, and Charles Davis; a very special cousin whom he thought a lot of, Leaner Conquest; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
