Preston Leona Kellam was born on September 22, 1944 to the late George Kellam and Mary Jane West-Kellam in Franktown, Virginia.

Preston, affectionately known as “Buddy Pole,” received his formal education in the Accomack County Public Schools. He began working for the Accomack County Public Schools as a bus driver. Buddy Pole loved his job and dedicated over fifty years of service to the county. He also enjoyed landscaping and continued to do this for many years until his health began to fail.
Preston accepted Christ at an early age, and began his Christian journey at New Allen Memorial A.M.E. Church in Nassawadox, Virginia. In 2011, he joined the congregation at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Wardtown, Virginia. He worshipped regularly until his health prevented him from attending.
Buddy Pole had a passion for motorcycles. He was considered one of the best riders on the Eastern Shore and in Bridgeton, New Jersey, where he would visit family.
Preston met the love of his life and longtime friend, Barbara, whom he married on September 26, 2009.
On Sunday, March 31, 2019, God called Preston from labor to reward at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Nassawadox, Virginia. Preston was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Kellam; longtime companion, Inez Baines; brothers, Darrell Kellam, Elton Collins, and George Collins; and sisters, Eunice Kellam, Frances Bailey, Eva Johnson, Justine Harmon, Maggie Kellam, Margaret Love, and Mary Sample.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Barbara Kellam of Parksley, VA; seven sons, Kinte Reid of Painter, VA, Jimmie Battle of FL, Harry (Yolonda) Gaskins of Exmore, VA, Cory Kellam of Tasley, VA, Calvin (Michelle) Bunting, Jr. of TX, Devin (Bridgechelle) Bunting of Parksley, VA and Sharod Bunting of SC; two daughters, Melissa (James) Walters and Leslie Gaskins, both of NJ; one sister, Cora Sample of Belle Haven, VA; twenty-four grandchildren; special friend that was always there for him, Dory Sample, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
