Venera Rainey Godwin was born on July 29, 1938 in Horsey, Virginia to the late Abraham and Louise Godwin. She departed this earthly life on August 8, 2019 in Romulus, New York.

Venera received her education in the public schools of Accomack County. At an early age she joined Jerusalem Baptist Church. She was employed at Golden Pride, Perdue Farms, and Eastern Shore Seafood.
Venera was known to bring a smile to everyone’s face because she always had something witty to say. There was no one she met that she didn’t like. Venera’s helpfulness and kind-heartedness will be missed by everyone. She had a running joke with Carletta Ballard that her husband, Bobby, was “her husband.”
Venera was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, and a special friend for fifty years, John Wiley, Jr.
Venera leaves to mourn her passing: eight children, Carl (Mary) Godwin of Romulus, NY, Roy Godwin of Snow Hill, MD, Ira Godwin of Horntown, VA, Lula Godwin of New Church, VA, Archie Godwin of Guam, Shawn Godwin of Temepranceville, VA, Calvin (Gwen) Godwin of Gargatha, VA, and Charles (Orvetta) Burton, Jr. of Berlin, MD; two brothers, Edward Godwin and Martin Godwin, both of Oak Hall, VA; three sisters, Dordean Schoolfield of Pocomoke, MD, Karen Bowen and Larue Godwin, both of Oak Hall, VA; forty-nine grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; fourteen great, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
