Carlette Marshell Custis, affectionately known as “Cody” or “Chocoletta CoCo Puff CC Ruff Ryder,” was born on November 27, 1966 to Thomas Custis and Mildred Mason in Northampton County, Virginia. She was called home to be with the Lord at Bon Secour Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia on August 22, 2019, after a brief illness.

Carlette was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. She developed a love for sports and became an avid softball and basketball player. In her spare time, she would volunteer with the local Special Olympics. She was very competitive and this was displayed on the field and court. This competitive spirit also made her a dynamic card player. She truly enjoyed playing spades.
Carlette was known for her outgoing personality and loving spirit. She will be missed by all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Tianna Custis; brothers, Melvin Custis and Larry Custis, Sr.; sister, Nancy Custis; and sister-in-law, Mae Parker.
Carlette will forever be remembered by her five children, Carlos & Lyniqua Custis of Newport News, VA, Katrina & Michael Satchell of Tasley, VA, Tina Custis of Gainesville, GA, Ryricka Custis of Pond, VA, and Jasmine & Forrest Davis of Painter, VA; eleven grandchildren, Ja’tez Custis, Carlus Custis, Malik Jones, De’Asia Jones, Cormari Birt, Zharie Birt, Makayla Satchell, Kha’mani Satchell, Knowledge Kelley, Fam’Quise Davis, and Jayden River; seven siblings, Gloria Holley, Ramona & Jerome Claiborne, Deania Custis, Gail & David Robinson, Wayne Custis, Thomas Parker, and Eric & Mary Custis; special friend, Melvin Strand; lifelong friend, Lindy Warren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
