Bessie Sue Floyd was born April 17, 1955, to the late Arlene Savage and the late Severn Richardson. She transitioned from this life on January 18, 2020, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

She was educated in the Accomack County Public School System and graduated from Central High School in Painter, VA. She continued her education and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University.
Bessie started her career as a Social Worker with the Accomack County Department of Social Services. She faithfully served the Eastern Shore community for 42 years. She was affectionally called “Miss Social Services” by family and friends. Bessie considered her co-workers as “family” and truly enjoyed working beside them.
Bessie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a member of the New Mount Calvary Baptist church in Exmore, Virginia, where she served with the Ushers Ministry.
Bessie devotedly served in many positions with the Order of the Eastern Star: ESTHER CHAPTER # 22 OES - PAST MATRON; RISING STAR CHAPTER # 14 OES – SECRETARY; CELESTIAL COURT # 1 ROYAL AND EXALTED ORDER OF AMARANTH; RAHAB COURT # 2 HEROINES OF JERICHO SERVED 13 YEARS AS MOST ANICENT MATRON; MATILE COURT # 2 DAUGHTERS OF THE SPHINX; HANNAH COUNCIL # 2 LADIES KNIGHTS TEMPLAR; HEDRIC-EDNEY COLLEGE NO. 1 - ROSE OF SEVEN SEALS -NEWLY ELECTED MOST EXCELLENT ROSE; VIRGINIA STATE GRAND CHAPTER OES -PAST GRAND OFFICERS
Bessie was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Arlene Savage; father, Severn Richardson; grandmother, Betty Savage; grandfather, Arthur Savage; brothers, James Richard Savage and Preston Dean; aunts, Bertie Burton and Margaret Johnson.
We are thankful that Bessie graced our lives and leaves to always cherish her memory: two daughters; LaShonda Floyd and Andrea Floyd; six grandchildren, Jamaari, Makhia, Tavion, Trevelle, Taliah, Jaakai; six sisters, Lula Mae Savage, Annette (Isaac) Jackson, Donnell Savage Hounshell, Laverne Dean, Jennifer Raynor, Faith Richardson; five brothers, Willard Savage, Vernon (Mary) Savage, Connell (Vickie) Savage, Steven (Jessica) Dean, Orlando Dean; uncle, Joseph (Julia) Savage; aunt, Vivian Needam; special friend of twenty-five years, Bonnie Munn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, Order of the Eastern Star sisters, Mason brothers, and friends.
