Obituary

Joe “Joey” Vance Northam was born on January 1, 1979, to Joe Vance Satchell and Michelle Northam Wharton in Nassawadox, Virginia. He sadly departed this life on May 2, 2020.

Joey was educated in the Accomack County Public School system. He was not afraid of work and would try just about any job. Joey worked many different types of jobs, from an exterminator, a golf course groundskeeper, flipping cars (even some that didn’t start), to his last place of employment at Walmart as a Stock Clerk.

Joey lived life to the fullest. He loved traveling, watching and playing sports, listening to music and singing, gambling, cars, spending time with friends and family, and sharing and debating with all of us on Facebook. Joey was truly a happy and giving soul whom, if he had it and you needed it, it was yours. He lived every moment, in the moment.

Joey is survived by: his children, Jamya Northam of Parksley, VA, Tyrell Edwards of Parksley, VA, Juliana Northam of Mears, VA, and Joelle Northam of Mears, VA; his mother, Michelle Wharton and stepfather Keith Wharton of Accomac, VA; father, Joe Vance Satchell of Salisbury, MD; maternal grandfather, Robert James Edwards of Parksley, VA; paternal grandmother, Francis Mason of Accomac, VA; brother, Cornik Northam of Accomac, VA; sister Keichelle Wharton of Chesapeake, VA. Joey will also be remembered by his aunts, Doris Edwards of Parksley, VA, Joanne (Reggie) Riddick of Chester, PA, Lula Mae (David) Satchell of Accomac, VA, Gloria Pettit of Parksley, VA, Celestine (Willie) Hargis of Parksley, VA, Terry (Earnest) Dickerson of Chester, PA, Patricia Bibbins of Parksley, VA, and Connie Willams of Accomac, VA; uncles, Alfred Northam of Parksley, VA, Robert Northam of Parksley, VA, Ernest Northam of Parksley, VA, David (Gwendolyn) Northam of Richmond, VA, and Donald Satchell of Accomac, VA; special friend, Eyonda Davis of Wattsville, VA; nieces, Aniya Edwards of Bloxom, VA, Canika Northam of Wattsville, VA, and KaMiyah Henry of Pocomoke, MD; and a host of other family and friends.

In the light of the evolving situation with COVID-19 virus, we are making adjustments to adapt to the current health emergency. In order to reduce the spread of the virus in our community, we are limiting the public’s access to our facility. We will continue to serve our families with the utmost dignity, as well as maintain the safety guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). We have received notification from the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers that funeral homes are included in the Governors Executive Order Fifty-Three (2020), which imposes the following restriction: Effective 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2020 until 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020, all public and private in person gatherings of 10 or more individuals are prohibited. In accordance with the Governor's Executive Order Fifty-Three, Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Inc. will comply and hold all services private until further notice. We will not have any public viewings. In an effort to accommodate family and friends, we are posting photos and the funeral/graveside service video of your loved ones on their respective Book of Memory pages on our website, www.cooperandhumbles.com. This will allow you to have a lasting memory picture and attend the service virtually. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time and as soon as this matter is resolved, we will resume our normal practices.
