Maurice Kevin Purnell, son of Janice Mae Collins Purnell and the late Percy Henry Purnell, was born on December 22, 1970 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on May 11, 2020 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Maurice was educated in the Lower Merion School District in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. “Moe,” as he was affectionately called, was a dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan. He served our country in the Army National Guard for a short period of time.
Maurice married his sweetheart, Mary on June 26, 2010. At the time of his sickness, Maurice had been working at Tyson Foods in Transportation for twenty-five years.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step mother, Sylvia Purnell; grandson, Chase Purnell; and mother-in-law, Peggy Bell.
Maurice leaves to mourn his loss: his wife, Mary Purnell; mother, Janice Purnell of Horntown, VA; father-in-law, John Bell of New Church, VA; two daughters, Tyneisha Purnell and Michelle Bell of New Church, VA; three sons, Maurice Purnell, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, Maurkice Purnell of Winchester, VA, and Akeem Bell of FL; four grandchildren, whom he loved with every fiber of his heart, Jamai, Cyan, Daniel, and Malani; three sisters, Dawn Holden of Makemie Park, VA, Angel (Derrick) Fooks of Pocomoke, MD, and Nakechia Brockington of Philadelphia, PA; five brothers, Marvin (Vanessa) Purnell of New Church, VA, Michael (Dana) Marshall of New Castle, DE, Leroy (Lonzie) Townsend of New Church, VA, Patrick Holden of Nelsonia, VA, and Dalton (Courtney) Milbourne of Pittsburgh, PA; two brothers-in-law, Jonathan Bell of Baltimore, MD and Andre Bell of Salisbury, MD; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
