Dorothy Francis Allen, was born December 29, 1930 in Accomac, Virginia, to the late Thomas and Margaret Roberts Savage. She departed this life Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Catonsville Commons Nursing Home in Catonsville, Maryland.

Dorothy received her early formal education in the public schools of Accomack County, Virginia. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Macedonia AME Church of Accomac, Virginia. Dorothy united in marriage to the late Shelly Allen in 1948. They were blessed with six children: Ronald, Bertie (preceded in death), Carlene, James, Darlene (preceded in death) and Edgar. Dorothy moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1963, looking for better opportunities. In 1966, Dorothy and Powell Joynes welcomed their only child, Patrick.
She had a life career in food services and domestic work for two doctors and after thirty years of working for the late General Bogart, she retired. Dorothy went on to become a dedicated fan of golf and Tiger Woods’ number one critic. When she was not critiquing Tiger, she would also watch her favorite soap opera, The Young and The Restless. Dorothy also had a green thumb, as she maintained her beautiful garden.
She enjoyed her church: Morning Star Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland. Her Pastor was the late Rev. Dr. Samuel Ray, then Rev. Clarence E. Fowler became the Shepard over the house and her spiritual leader until her death.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Ronald (Louise) of Baltimore, MD, Carlene of Onley, VA, James (Serita) of Randallstown, MD, Edgar Allen of Onley, VA, and Patrick of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Randy, Tammy, Jeffrey, Latarsha, Marcus, and Lenora; nine great-grandchildren; eight great, great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Sue of Dublin, GA, Francis of Paterson, NJ, and Joan of Severn, MD; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
