Tykeshia Laraye Lofland, daughter of Sheila Lofland-Giddens and William Fortt, Sr., was born on June 8, 1989 at Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital, Nassawadox, Virginia. Tykeshia, affectionately known by her family as “Keddie” and “Kitty-Pooh” by her parents, slipped away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia after a brief illness.

Keddie was a 2007 graduate of Nandua High School in Onley, Virginia. She was also a Certified Nursing Assistant and prior to her illness, she was employed by Shore Health & Rehabilitative Center in Parksley, Virginia. Even though, she was confined at home, Keddie was still interested in pursuing classes to further her education.

Keddie was a quiet independent person with a beautiful smile. She enjoyed reading and showing off her latest “Betty-Boop” purchase or her new “Jordans.” Keddie loved her nieces and her nephew. She enjoyed spending time at family gatherings and learning new dance steps with her cousins.

Keddie was an active member of New Allen Memorial AME Church in Franktown, Virginia, where she served as a Junior Usher, member of the YPD Choir, and the Praise Dance Team. Even during her illness, Keddie expressed a desire to come to church and as soon as her health permitted it, she would ask her family to bring her to church.

Tykeshia Laraye “Keddie” Lofland leaves to cherish her sweet memory her mother, Sheila Lofland-Giddens of Onancock, VA; her step-father, Charles Giddens of Jamesville, VA; her sister, Shenae “Nikki” Collins of Painter, VA; her brother, William Fortt, Jr. of Parksley, VA; her grandparents, Sylvanus & Mary Lofland of Painter, VA; three aunts, Gladys Lofland-Strand of Painter, VA, Mary Lofland of Exmore, VA, and Sandra Lofland of Fredericksburg, VA; one uncle, Sylvanus “Buddy” Lofland of Selbyville, DE; four nieces, Zaniah & Je’ziyah Beach, Arianna & Lovely Fortt; one nephew, Xzayvior Snead; three great-aunts, Helen Kellam (James) of Painter, VA, Ethel Young of Baltimore, MD, and Georgie Clayton of Seaford, DE; four great-uncles, Joseph Sample (Georgie) of Painter, VA, James Lee, Stormie and Ricky Scarborough, all of NJ; her dog, Roscoe; and a multitude of cousins and friends.

Tykeshia was predeceased by her father, William Fortt, Sr.; her grandmother, Margaret Fortt; and her aunt, Joyce Lofland.

The Lofland Family has lost another link in their chain. Keddie’s quiet sweet presence will be missed greatly. Good-bye, sweet Kitty-Pooh until we see you again.
